The Mexican PGR http://www.pgr.gob.mx/ arrested two people connected with
Vonage here in Mexico. The arrest team included members of SCT

Reason. Operating in Mexico without a Local concession and using VOIP for
transporting traffic outside of Mexico without a Long Distance concession.

I hear they only give you beans and water. You have to have your friends
bring you food, or you go without and I have been told that they give you a
bucket for a toilet. We have an employee who has told us what the jail
system is all about. His brother was in the PGR jail until he died.

Alex: If the operator is out of MX would the end users be arrested?

I am not sure. I know they have put a lot grey market people into jail but
I haven’t heard of any end users going to jail. In Tijuana, they closed
down 9 companies about 4 months ago. Three of the companies had value
added permits.

Mexico has a law that says no one can carry traffic outside of Mexico
without a Long Distance Concession. This is not the first time that the
government has made arrests relating to grey market traffic.

They arrested 5 guys three years ago from one company for doing a callback
service. Four of them are still in custody waiting for their criminal
trials. One guy put up 5 million and he was released. The others are
still in custody.

Telmex is the ones that cause all the problems, they want their market and
any and all ways they can fuck with you they will.

Pmonopoly of the phone market in Mexico is complete, Telmex and all of the
other companies charge, for example, $.75 USD a minute for LD inside Mexico
and to the US, when for example you can get a voip carrier and get LD for
$.013 a minute to the US and $.024 to Mexico.

Hell! Its even cheaper to dial Mexican cel phones from Mexico using a LD
voip carrier in the US.

Locally dialing a cel phone in Mexico gets a charge of $.25 USD per minute
whereas using a voip LD from the US and dialing the same cel phone in Mexico
sosts $.024 USD per minute…. Mexican phone companies are charging you 10
times more!!!!!!

Screw them …

Steve:
They were Vonage employees according to the SCT people. I am trying to find
out their names and positions with Vonage.

However, you are correct, they are always arresting people selling services
here in Mexico that are not part of the concession holders.
